Road signs

Traffic signs and road markings make it clear when drivers are approaching, entering, and leaving the charging zone.

Regulations only require entrance and exit signs to be in place, however we use additional signage to assist road users.

On this page:

Entering the charging zone

Signs indicate the hours of operation at, or near, all zone entry points.

Leaving the charging zone

As drivers leave the congestion charging zone signs indicate the end of the zone.

Within the zone

You will often see red C road markings close to the entry of the zone, and signs to remind you that cameras are located within the chargeable area.

On approach

Directional signs and/or road markings indicate which routes take drivers into the charging zone and which do not.

Some approach lanes to the charging zone are also marked with a white symbol.

Advance information

This is provided on the main approach roads using two types of sign. At various distances from the charging zone, signs provide details of the hours of operation, some signs also remind drivers of the daily £8 charge.
