Free travel in London
Bus, Tube, DLR, Tramlink and London Overground services
You can travel free at any time within London. When travelling on the Tube, DLR or London Overground, you can also take up to four under-11s with you for free.
Most non-TfL local bus services operating in London now accept Freedom Passes on their services from 09:30-23:00 on weekdays and any time on weekends and public holidays. If in doubt, please ask the driver or contact London Councils on 020 7747 4858 or by email to mobility@londoncouncils.gov.uk.
National Rail services
You can travel free from 09:30 on weekdays and at any time on weekends and public holidays, or at any time on the following routes:
- Amersham - Marylebone
- Finsbury Park - King's Cross or Moorgate
- Harrow & Wealdstone - Clapham Junction via Kensington (Olympia)*
- Harrow & Wealdstone - Euston
- West Hampstead Thameslink - Moorgate, Elephant & Castle or London Bridge
- Stratford - Liverpool Street
- Upminster - Fenchurch Street or Liverpool Street via Barking
- West Ruislip - South Ruislip
* Freedom pass holders can travel free at any time on London Overground services. On Southern services, holders of disabled freedom passes can travel free at any time; holders of older persons freedom passes can travel free after 09:00 on weekdays and at any time on weekends and public holidays.
Please note, when travelling outside of these times the appropriate full fare is payable.

National Rail restrictions
Please note, Freedom Passes are not valid on train services operated by National Express East Coast, Midland Mainline, Virgin Trains, Gatwick Express, Heathrow Express, Heathrow Connect between Hayes & Harlington and Heathrow, or for first class travel.
For travel beyond the Freedom Pass area you must buy a separate extension ticket before you travel. Please show your pass at the ticket office when buying tickets.
Using Freedom Passes outside London within England
Buses
Freedom Pass holders can travel free on local buses anywhere outside London within England between 09:30 and 23:00 on weekdays and any time on weekends and public holidays.
Tube
Freedom Pass holders can travel free between London stations and the following stations outside the Greater London zonal area (and at intermediate stations where appropriate):
- Amersham - Marylebone
- Chalfont & Latimer
- Chesham
- Chorleywood
- Croxley
- Rickmansworth
- Watford (Metropolitan line, not Watford Junction London Overground/National Rail station)
London Overground
Freedom Pass holders can travel free between London stations and the following stations outside the Greater London zonal area (and at intermediate stations where appropriate):
- Bushey
- Carpenders Park
- Watford High Street
- Watford Junction
Note: Freedom Passes are only valid on London Overground services between Harrow & Wealdstone and Watford Junction. They are not valid on London Midland or Southern services between these stations.
National Rail services
Freedom Pass holders can travel free between London stations and the following stations outside the Greater London zonal area:
- Dartford
- Swanley
